DIGITAL GAMES PRODUCTION

WHAT IS VOCATIONAL DIGITAL GAMES PRODUCTION?

Do you have a vivid imagination? Are you a problem solver? Digital Games Production will give you the academic knowledge needed to break into the games industry and serves as a university preferred route towards computer games design/development degrees.

Designed to introduce to students how computer games and interactive products are designed, developed and produced, this vocational course will provide the opportunity to develop own ideas and the know-how of what goes into the making of an exciting and playable computer game. Students will also develop an understanding of different games platforms.

A range of exciting topics includes 3D modelling, 3D animation, 3D environments, digital media skills and games production and more. Students will develop skills in a wide range of software, including 3D modelling and Animation software Maya, Photoshop and 3D game engines Unreal Engine/Unity.

* BTEC Digital Games Production and Computer Science cannot be studied together

What will I learn?

  • Two compulsory units:

    • Unit 3: Digital Media Skills

    • Unit 13: Digital Games Production

    Then, three additional units in the second year:

    • Unit 40: 3D Modelling

    • Unit 41: 3D Environments

    • Unit 43: 3D Animation

  • 70% Coursework, including practical/written assessments

  • 30% externally assessed controlled assessment.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades 9-4, including a grade 4 in both English Language and Maths

You do not need to have studied ICT at KS4.

Where can Vocational ICT take me?

Successful completion of this course will prepare you for a range of degree and career opportunities. Degrees you can study include games design and production, animation, games design and art, games design and programming and 3D architectural design.
